Wild Card Youth Rodeo cancelled

CHILDRESS — The Wild Card Youth Rodeo Winter Series has been cancelled, according to event organizer Sheabree Nix. Originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24-Sunday. Jan. 25 the event was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Wellington community sends prayers along with the Greenbelt Electric Cooperative (GEC), Inc. linemen heading to Rask County in East Texas on Monday, Jan. 26. “All electric cooperatives are governed by seven cooperative principles,” said GEC General Manager Randy White.

WELLINGTON – Boss Lion Lori O’Rear welcomed members and guests Linda Duke, Camden McDaniel and Zella McDaniel to the meeting of the Wellington Lions Club at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5 at the Club Room of the Bura Handley Community Center.

Wellington Volunteer Fire Department Third Annual Varmint Hunt deemed a success with 32 team entries

WELLINGTON – The Wellington Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) kicked off its 2026 Varmint Hunt with check-in at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, followed by weigh-in at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11. Each two-four-man team paid an entry fee of $400.
The Red River Sun staff enjoyed a tour of Community Printers, located in Shamrock, last Wednesday, Jan. 21, where about 30 area newspapers are printed. The staff observed and learned more about the entire newspaper production process, from platemaking through offset printing.
