Wellington Care Center recognizes Stallings’ service

WELLINGTON – For his commitment, dedication and exceptional volunteer service to Wellington Care Center, Harry Stallings has been recognized as its Volunteer of the Year. “For nearly a year, Harry has been visiting the facility twice a week, Thursday mornings to play dominos with residents and Sundays to lead church services,” said Administrator Nikki Hathaway.

Tom had worked as a research scientist at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 10 years, and he was a friend of my Uncle Chester Morgan, who also worked there. Now, Tom was following a new calling on his life – to be a Bible translator. He stayed very busy in Africa for decades with his work, yet he still found time to climb Africa’s two tallest peaks. A diagnosis of grade 4 kidney cancer brought him back to Tennessee, where he worked remotely on his translation work for about five more years.

Dollar Tree to close 1,000 stores, including Childress location

CHILDRESS — Dollar Tree recently announced the closure of nearly 1,000 stores, including 970 Family Dollar locations and 30 Dollar Tree locations. According to Dollar Tree, the discount retailer will close 600 Family Dollar locations this year, followed by 370 Family Dollar and 30 Dollar Tree locations over the next several years as store leases expire.

CHILDRESS — Tuesday, May 7, a Cessna 172 stopped in for fuel, a Beechcraft King Air departed and a Pacer, from Wichita Falls, practiced in the area. A Cessna 172 fueled up, and a Cessna 206 stopped to pick up a prisoner and fuel on its way from Denton to Arizona. A Eurocopter dropped in for fuel on its way from New Mexico to Oklahoma, and a Cessna 182 flew in from Vernon.
