WELLINGTON – Allowing a late score, the Wellington Skyrockets couldn’t recover in a 28-24 heartbreaker to the Lubbock Christian Eagles Friday night, Sept. 2 on home turf.

Up 24-20 after three quarters, Wellington took the lead on a touchdown scamper by Dakota Marshall and was able to maintain the advantage until Lubbock Christian’s Bax Townend broke free, scoring on a 17-yard run on a third and 10 late in the fourth quarter.

With one final shot,the Rockets were unable to move the ball other their final possession.

Barrett Phillips was the leading rusher for Wellington, going for 78 yards on 14 carries with two scores. Jordan Nation made catches for 81 yards.
