Eddie Sam “Popa” Maxwell, 80, of Wellington, Texas, passed away Monday, April 1, 2024.

Funeral services took place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the First Baptist Church with Jermaine Cantu, pastor of the Trinity Fellowship Church, Michael Breedlove and Kenny Lee Tunstall officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.

Glenn Thomas, Levi Carter, Billy Carter, John Neeley, James Cleveland, Clint Bergvall, Arnie Ingram and Nicky Watts served as pallbearers.

He was born on Nov. 13, 1943, in Wellington, to Jake and Jane Carter Maxwell. Eddie married Donna Jo Isaacs on Feb. 9, 1963, at the First Baptist Church in Wellington.

Eddie was a member of the Trinity Fellowship Church, where he pastored from 2008-2009, served as an elder and taught Celebrate Life Recovery for many years. His everyday life was a ministry for the Lord. He preached his own funeral by the life he lived.

He farmed and ranched for many years.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents.

His is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons,Tony Maxwell and wife Suzanne and Tim Maxwell and wife Debora; five grandchildren, Jason Maxwell and Sasha, Kelli Killian and Vance, Samantha Maxwell and Paige, Carli Maxwell and fiancé Gunter Pennington and Reagan Maxwell; two great-grandchildren, Kylin Killian and Antwan Bassett and Ryker Killian; a greatgreat granddaughter, Nakiyah Bassett; and two sisters, Lynda Norman and Karen Holton and Johnny.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Wellington Cemetery Association, P.O. 321, Wellington, TX 79095.
