Quanah, Texas is located 29 miles east of Childress and sits between the Red and Pease rivers in Hardeman County. The town was named for Chief Quanah Parker.W.J. Jones, who arrived in 1884, was the first settler. The Denver City and Fort Worth Railway surveyed the town site and began selling lots the next year.
