Darolyn was born on Oct. 18, 1955, in Memphis to Jimmy Decker and Wanda Sue (Howard) Williams. She attended school in Childress. She later attended Clarendon College, where she obtained her degree in nursing and began her career at Childress Regional Medical Center. She worked for many years in the nursing field.
She was known for being the life of the party and had a beautiful smile and the kind of laugh that consumed everyone’s attention. She adored her grandchildren, and her love for them was like no other. She enjoyed her time in the kitchen cooking for them, especially her famous chicken and dumplings. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas; she always made it so special for her family. She was a huge country music fan; her favorites were George Strait and Patsy Cline.Anyone who knew her knew she had an extravagant sense of fashion from head to toe.She lived on her terms and was a force to be reckoned with. To know her was to love her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; stepdad Wilbur Don Williams; her daughter, Nicole Brook Nelson; a brother, Waylon “Pokey” MaGouirk; and a niece, April Atchley.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Heather Nelson and Tesa Nix and husband Brandon; her grandchildren, Tristan Farris and wife Kenzie, Abbi Willis and husband Trent, Tatum Farris and Aiden Perez; her sisters, Deborah Lovell and husband Bill, Tammy Lucero and husband Ernie and Donna Garrison; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special companion,Larry Bettis, who was so devoted to making sure our Mom was happy and always felt loved. They always enjoyed their time together, whether it be going out to eat or cruising around in her 2002 Camry with the windows down, the music blaring and a Dr. Pepper in one hand and a smoke in the other. One of their favorite memories was a road trip to the GarageBand Woodstock in Abilene, Texas, which they attended yearly.
When the time came and she was ready to go, she expressed how much she would miss her family, which weighed heavily on her heart.
On behalf of Darolyn’s family, we would like to say thank you to everyone at Memphis Convalescent Center for taking such great care of her.
