Lady Rockets take reserve championship

BURKBURNETT — Childress and Wellington runners recently competed at the Burkburnett Cross Country Jamboree Thursday, Sept. 1.

The defending 2A State Champion Lady Rocket team took second, just falling short of a first-place finish to defending 3A State Champion Holliday, thanks to medalists Addy Mock, who finished fifth, Harlee Gomez, who finished 19th, Alyssa Lewis, who finished 22nd, Presley Kane, who finished 28th, Audrey Jones, who finished 31st and Abby Garcia, who finished 48th. Rounding out the Lady Rocket team is Leslie Orozco.

Competing individually, Childress’ Clarissa Gambo placed 20th with a time of 14:23, setting the Lady Cats, including Kar’Leigh Husband, Brook Pierce and Bethani Spencer, up for an average time of 15:48, while Gavin Navarrette medaled a 15th-place finish with a time of 21:43.
