Area players named to 2022 Amarillo Globe-News preseason football Super Team

AMARILLO — Three Childress Bobcats, including Lamont Nickleberry, Zachary Etheredge and Seth Taylor, three Wellington Skyrockets, including Rey Ramirez, Blake Strickland and Jordan Nation, and one Memphis Cyclone, Brandon Pierson, were recently named to the 2022 Amarillo Globe-News preseason football Super Team, announced Sunday, Aug. 21.

Notching 54 catches, 829 yards and 15 touchdowns his junior season, Nickleberry, a senior wide receiver made the first team offense, being named a “burgeoning star in the Panhandle.”

The Skyrocket first team offensive lineup, on the other hand, included senior offensive linemen Ramirez, who put up a junior season lineup of 43 pancakes, 42 cut blocks and 27 knockdowns, and Strickland, who graded out at 96% while tallying 33 pancakes, 22 cut blocks and 36 knockdowns.

On first team defense, Nation, a senior defensive back, touted 43 tackles, 12 pass breakups, four interceptions and two fumble recoveries last season.

Coming in on the second team offense was senior Bobcat offensive lineman Etheredge, while senior Cyclone defensive lineman Pierson took second team defense.

Honorable mentions included senior Bobcat linebacker and wide receiver Taylor.
