Greenbelt Junior Golf Association introduces addition of Bill Beck Cup

CHILDRESS — Wrapping up the 2024 season, Greenbelt Junior Golf Association Childress Coordinator Abigail McGee announced the addition of the Bill Beck Cup, a competition honoring the late Bill Beck, an avid golfer,at the end-of-year tournament Thursday, June 27 at Stoney Ridge Golf Course.

“Thanks to a donation from family members, Greenbelt Junior Golf Association will add a new level of competition each season, the Bill Beck Cup,”McGee said.“Mr. Beck was an avid supporter of youth golf, and Greenbelt Junior Golf Association is honored to continue his tradition of encouraging competition and community on the golf course.”

An added level of competition for players, local leagues will compete annually for points to win the Bill Beck Cup,McGee said.

Each of the top four players in all of the four age divisions for boys and girls will earn points for their local league,” McGee added. “At the end of the season, the league with the most points earned will receive an award plate to add to their league’s Bill Beck Cup plaque.”

Having passed in 2020, Beck’s wife, Belinda Beck presented the plaques to each of the leagues, including Altus, which boasts 52 players, Childress, which boasts 28 players, Roaring Springs and Shamrock, which each boast 14 players; Clarendon and Quanah, which each boast eight players; and Memphis and Wellington, which each boast five players.

“This added element of teamwork and community will further develop mentorship and teamwork across the age groups within the association,” McGee said.“Greenbelt Junior Golf Association is so appreciative of the support from the Bill Beck family, and we look forward to continuing the competition for the cup for many years to come.”
