CHILDRESS — The Childress Fire Department recently announced they will be hosting a Junior Firefighter Program, which will run Oct. 3 through May 5, including two days per week of class and training.
Applicants must be at least 17 years of age and enrolled in school. The program is limited to 10 spots.
To enroll, applications must be turned into the Childress Fire Department no later than Sept. 19. Following, interviews will be scheduled, and the selection of applicants will be announced Sept. 26.
According to the Childress Fire Department, the program will promote the fire service, as well as teach young individuals the basic skills of firefighting while providing a mentorship to pursue a career in the fire service.
Following completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to become volunteer firefighters with the Childress Fire Department.
“Our goal is to instill good values of respect in these young people,” Childress firefighter Justin Willis said. “I’m so excited to start this program. This is a great opportunity for our department and community.”
