AMARILLO — Three Childress Bobcats, including Dareon Mathis, Lamont Nickleberry and Seth Taylor, and three Wellington Skyrockets, including Jordan Nation, Barrett Phillips and Rey Ramirez, were recently named to Press Pass Sports’ 40 Texas Panhandle football players to watch in 2022, announced Sunday, Aug. 15.

A senior wide receiver and defensive back for the Bobcats, Nickleberry, who comes in at 5-11, 170 pounds, is expected to blow his junior season out of the water, topping last year’s 56 catches for 883 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Fellow senior wide receiver and running back Taylor, who comes in at 6-2, 200 pounds, is also predicted to surpass his junior season’s stats, which include 34 passes for 556 yards and a pair of scores and 48 tackles with two picks on defense.

For the Skyrockets, Ramirez, a 5-10, 195-pound, senior offensive lineman and defensive lineman, is anticipated to lead Wellington Head Coach Greg Proffitt’s veteran lineup, chewing up yards on offense and plugging the gaps on defense, exceeding his junior year 76 tackles with four sacks.

Also making the “Notable Players to Watch,” are junior Bobcat Mathis, a 5-8, 180-pound running back, and senior Skyrockets Nation, a 6-3, 180-pound defensive back, and Phillips, a 5-10, 180-pound fullback and linebacker.
