Memphis ISD hosts Back-to-School Bash, Meet the Cyclones

MEMPHIS — In preparation for the 2022-23 school year, which officially began Thursday, Aug. 18, Memphis Independent School District (ISD) held a Back-to-School Bash, followed by Meet the Cyclones, Monday, Aug. 16 on the square in downtown Memphis.

Joined by Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Rolling Plains, Memphis Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Memphis Police Department, Memphis Public Library, Memphis Volunteer Fire Department, Panhandle Community Services, Region 16 Head Start and more, the event offered Memphis ISD students the opportunity to meet their teachers, while participating in fundraisers and other fun events, including Travis Elementary School’s lemonade stand, Memphis High School’s dunking booth and Counselors’ Cornhole Toss.

Following the bash, Cyclone fans joined on the northside of the square for Meet the Cyclones, in which the junior varsity and varsity football players were introduced by Athletic Director and Head Football Coach David Jurado, varsity cheerleaders were introduced by Cheer Sponsor Janet Brooks, varsity volleyball players were introduced by Head Volleyball Coach Jeana Yarbrough and varsity cross country runners were introduced by Head Cross Country Coach Michelle Branigan.

“The Back-to-School Bash was a huge success,” Memphis ISD said in a post, thanking attending community partners, families and staff. “We had a great turnout and loads of fun.”
