WELLINGTON – In business since 1937, the 10-store Bartlett’s Lumber & Hardware chain of home centers located in the Texas Panhandle is celebrating its 85th anniversary with a three-day sale Sept. 1, 2 and 3.
On Saturday, Sept. 3, the Wellington location will have its gala event with music beginning at 9 a.m.
“We will serve hamburgers, hotdogs and soda from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.,”said store manager Eli Jett. “Everyone can sign up for our door prizes all three days of our sale. Drawings will be on Saturday for a riding lawnmower, two barbecue grills, a Pit Boss griddle, DeWalt tools and the three Bartlett’s gift cards for $100, $200 and $500.”
On Friday, Sept. 2, the Memphis location of Bartlett’s will serve hotdogs and hamburgers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The store will also conduct a variety of anniversary celebration drawings, as well as a three-day Bucket Bonanza sale.
Headquartered in Canadian, where William Bartlett founded Bartlett’s Lumber & Hardware, the company is now operated by Bartlett’s son and company president, Terrill Bartlett, following his brother’s, Tom Bartlett, retirement in 2015.
Company vice presidents include Terrill Bartlett’s sons, Coleman Bartlett and Bryan Bartlett, and his niece, Kimberly Harland. Together, they run the company from its general office and operate a distribution center in Canadian, where most of the building materials are shipped from.
During the grand opening celebration of the new Wellington location in September 2017, Terrill Bartlett described the family hardware industry legacy.
“If you include Higginbotham- Bartlett, which our grandfather Charlie Bartlett was involved with, we go back to 1904. Coleman, Bryan and Kimberly are the fourth generation to be in the business, which is rare for a family business.”
Bartlett’s Lumber & Hardware locations, in addition to Canadian, Memphis and Wellington, include Dalhart, Dumas, Gruver, Pampa, Perryton, Shamrock and Spearman. As with many smalltown, independent hardware retailers that continue to serve their communities profitably during tough times, Bartlett’s bases its success on the foundation of product knowledge, personal service and competitive pricing.
