WELLINGTON – The retired teachers of First Baptist Church (FBC) hosted a backto- school breakfast for Wellington Independent School District (WISD) employees at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8. FBC Deacon Brandon Mitchell welcomed the crowd of around 100 and offered the prayer.
The retired educators served breakfast burritos with bacon or sausage from Mona’s Firehouse Cocina buffet style along with grapes, orange juice, coffee and water. With a rustic, cactus theme of “Learn, Grow and Bloom,” each table winner, determined by a note under the seat of one chair, received the large, succulent centerpiece décor. WISD Superintendent Kurt Ashmore thanked the church women who provided the breakfast before he introduced the 16 new staff members.
These include Alexis Alvarez, elementary special education aide; Cathy Andrews, elementary ESL (English as a Second Language) and special education aide; Blake Ashmore, junior high teacher; Klark Ashmore, assistant coach and teacher; Faith Brooks, junior high special education aide; Cade Brown, girls’ basketball coach and history teacher; Colin Brown, junior high teacher; Sarah Cantu, elementary secretary; Megan Cardenas, fifth grade teacher; Marcus Garcia, elementary custodian; Crystal Gonzales, elementary technology aide; Kurby Mitchell, third grade teacher; Tonya Mitchell, math building custodian; Amanda Sanchez, junior high special education aide; Harley Warrick, assistant technology and assistant band; and Diann Williams, fifth grade teacher.
Wellington Elementary reassignments include Rhae Jones, Head Start; Megan Wischkaemper, pre-kindergarten; Leslie Wiebe, kindergarten; Lauren Patterson, kindergarten and first grade; Becky Lampe, second grade; and Carrie Warren, third grade.
The new school year began Monday, Aug. 15.
