The Memphis Little League baseball team fell short in All-Stars play this year, which began Friday, June 24 during the Texas District 1 2022 Major Baseball Tournament in Dumas. Taking wins over Childress on Saturday, June 25 and Clarendon on Monday, June 27, the boys ultimately fell to Dumas Tuesday night.

The Childress Little League 12U softball team takes Tri-County Liberty in All-Stars play during the Texas District 1 2022 Majors Softball Tournament in Clarendon Saturday, June 26, winning 10-0. Moving forward, Childress took the 2022 District 1 Little League Softball Championship, advancing to Sectionals, which will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 2 in Ralls.

Berkeley Ward, left, of Wellington, earns first place in the Memphis Greenbelt Jr. Golf Association kindergarten-through-third-grade girls division. In second place is Dakota Davis, of Shamrock, followed by third-place Blair Ward, of Wellington, and fourth-place Berkley Lepe, of Childress. Mikyela James, also representing Wellington, placed fifth in the girls fourth-and-fifth-grade division. The final Greenbelt Jr. Golf Association tournament for the season will be in Childress Thursday, June 30.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football (DCTF) Managing Editor Greg Tepper recently selected Childress receiver/defensive back Lamont Nickleberry as the 2022 Texas State 7-on-7 Tournament Day 2 MVP. “A two-way dynamo, he made his presence felt on both sides of the ball,” Tepper said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what he does when the autumn rolls around.” Additionally, Nickleberry was named to the 2022 DCTF All-State 7-on-7 First Team’s defensive lineup, announced Tuesday, June 28.

Wellington’s Caleb Weinette and Dakota Marshall and Clarendon’s Cutter Seay respectively take first, second and third in the high school boys division at the Clarendon Greenbelt Jr. Golf Association Tournament Tuesday, June 21. At the June 17 contest, held in Mangum, Okla., Weinette took first, Marshall third and Seay fourth; at the June 15 contest, held in Roaring Springs, Weinette garnered first and Seay second; and at the June 10 contest, held in Shamrock, Seay took second, Marshall third and Conner Kane, of Wellington, fourth. Results of the Thursday, June 23 tournament in Memphis were unavailable at press time. The final Greenbelt Jr. Golf Association tournament for the season will be in Childress Thursday, June 30.

At the Clarendon contest, held June 20, Berkeley Ward placed first, Davis second and Blair Ward third. The Ward sisters are the daughters of Brandon and Carly Ward.
