CHILDRESS — Join Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Shawn Gray, Mule Deer and Pronghorn Leader; Mitch Lockwood, Big Game Program Director; and Jeff Bonner, Technical Guidance Biologist, for a deer symposium from 8:30 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 at the Mashburn Event Center.
Additional speakers will include Jim Heffelfinger, Arizona Game and Fish Department Wildlife Science Coordinator; Levi Heffelfinger, Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute; Jodie Stockett, Corteva Range and Pasture Specialist; Randy DeYoung, Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute; and Ryan Martin Texas A&M AgriLife CEA.
Topics will include mule deer antler restriction, mule deer and white-tailed deer hybridization in Texas and beyond, mule deer home ranges and movement relative to agriculture, culling for genetic change, chronic wasting disease in Texas, mule deer body size, age and antler development, deer management and pesticide laws and regulations.
Continuing education unit participants can earn two CEUs.
Pre-registration is $15 and includes a catered lunch by Top Notch BBQ. Registration forms can be picked up and returned to the Childress Chamber of Commerce, 237 Commerce St. Forms may be returned by mail to Childress Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 35, Childress, TX 79201. Forms must be returned by Friday, Oct. 22.
