AMARILLO — Childress senior quarterback Collin Bishop was recently chosen as Amarillo Globe-News’ (AGN) Athlete of the Week.
“There’s a big reason why the Childress Bobcats are 3-0 and look as dominant as ever heading into district play,” Amarillo Globe-News Sports Reporter Julio Vega said. “Quarterback Collin Bishop has been at the heart of the offense, playing his biggest game of the season last week in a 30-28 win over Shallowater last Friday.”
Going 24-for-35, Bishop racked up 448 yards and four touchdowns with three passes finding Lamont Nickleberry while Avery Jalomo picked up a touchdown pass.
“Shallowater was a big, tough physical team and playing away in that big of an atmosphere, where there were no seats open and everyone one the sidelines is standing,” Bishop told AGN. “I really learned to trust my teammates that game and going forward, I know I can put complete faith into my [offensive] line, my receivers, my coaches.”
And just three games into the 2021 season, Bishop has amassed nearly 1,000 yards, which head coach and athletic director Jason Sims said isn’t a coincidence.
“He’s spent a lot of time perfecting his craft. He’s an extremely intelligent kid,” Sims told AGN. “Everything he’s doing right now, he’s paid the price to have that success. From the way he’s trained and prepared over the last several years, it’s no accident.”
