WELLINGTON – Collingsworth County first responders filed into the Ritz Theatre lobby as guests of honor for a special evening of food and fellowship hosted by Robert Owens and family. Spouses and visitors joined the fun as well at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7.
“We missed last year, so want to take this opportunity to show appreciation for what you do, day in and day out,” said Owens. “I thank you for your service.”
With the 20th anniversary of 9/11 coming up later in the week, many attendees were too young to remember how folks across the country joined together, filled churches and prayed. What an appropriate time for Owens to thank Wellington Emergency Management Service, Collingsworth County Sheriff’s Office, Samnorwood Volunteer Fire Department and Wellington Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD).
“This dinner is a small token of our appreciation,” Owens said.
Steve Owens offered a blessing before Bertie Fannie’s Sarah Cook and Annette Montgomery served ribeye steaks, mashed potatoes, green beans, garden salad, rolls and peach cobbler.
Eddie Langford, WVFD second assistant chief, expressed his gratefulness to Owens on behalf of all present. “We appreciate the way you support us in so many aspects,” he said. “We are truly blessed.”
Following the meal, Lucy and Summer Owens assisted Robert Owens with cash door prize drawings, from $50 to the grand prize of $250. Lucky winners included Jacen Lemons, Darcy Baker, Pat Needham, Tino Salinas, Matt Tarver, LJ Holton, Nolan Hamby, Brandon Arnold and Jonathan Hamby.
