NEW DEAL – It was supposed to be a showcase game on the South Plains; however, the New Deal Lions handed Wellington a second straight loss, 28-6, at Lions Stadium on Friday, Sept. 3.
The battered Skyrockets are still without signal caller Creighton Killian, but the offense did see a boost as Wellington returned their all-state running back Marc Ramirez. Ramirez made up for lost time collecting 92 yards and a score on 21 carries Friday night.
Defense was the key in this one, and New Deal’s was impressive holding the Skyrockets to only 212 yards of total offense as well as forcing three turnovers on the night.
Leric Eaton led the way for the Lions’ offense, picking up 150 yards and two touchdowns on only 16 carries.
Wellington falls to 0-2. New Deal is off to a 2-0 start.
