The Red River Sun/Bev Odom
Jack Odom, with his Labrador Retriever Frank, left, and Johnny Davis bag their limit of 15 mourning dove each Saturday evening, Sept. 4, in northern Childress County. Both 2013 graduates of Wellington High School, Odom and Davis have been hunting together for over 10 years. Since a cold front has not come through the Texas Panhandle, birds can still be found in the area. The hunting season for dove opened Sept. 1 and goes until Nov. 12 for the North Zone of Texas, then picks up again Dec. 17 through Jan. 2, 2022.
