Childress Women’s League receives $10,000 from South Plains Electric Cooperative, CoBank

CHILDRESS – Childress Women’s League (CWL) received a $10,000 donation from South Plains Electric Cooperative (SPEC) and CoBank that will go toward their Backpack Program.

“Childress Women’s League exists to serve our community and build a better tomorrow for all our backpack families by serving in our area,” said CWL President Shelly Preston. “Receiving this grant from CoBank and SPEC will be very helpful in assisting us to reach our current goals and continuing to supply families with well-balanced meals each week.”

This donation comes right before school starts and the program gets busier. The check presentation was at SPEC Childress office at 3 p.m. on July 13.

“Personally, as well as a CWL member, CISD board member and educator, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation for the generous SPEC contribution,” Carol Freeman said. “Well-nourished children are better prepared to learn and to excel in school. Each dollar will be utilized to make a difference in the life of a child in Childress.”
