WELLINGTON — Located just west of Wellington, lush black-eyed peas, green beans and squash fill the rows along the tomatoes in Gary Nation’s vegetable garden.
“I want to get people enthused about gardening by sharing this huge tomato plant,” he said.
Average rainfall for Wellington, according to the National Weather Service, is 23.5 inches. As of June 30, the Weather Bug app shows a total of 13.6 inches for Wellington, 1.85 inches above average for the first half of 2021.
Just over four inches fell in May and four inches in June. Of course, totals vary greatly across Collingsworth County and even in different parts of town.
The July total as of 5 p.m. on July 5 is 2.49 inches.
Nation claims to have a secret potion to help plants produce multiple, lush tomatoes. In addition, he said, “My Father is a gardener.”
