WELLINGTON — Castings for Teen Universe Pageant contestants will take place in Wellington Saturday, July 10, thanks to the involvement of Juliana Castaneda, Teen Universe Southern States.

“I encourage all girls to participate, not only for the great experience, but for the skills you attain from participating in pageants,” said Castaneda, a 2021 graduate of Wellington High School. “A lot of people have a negative image of pageants, because they believe it’s about the outside appearance, but it’s about your characteristic, personality and what you have to offer to your community.”

Castaneda won the Miss Amarillo Latina pageant last September at the Amarillo Globe-News Center to advance to the next level. Paulina Fernandez, director of Teen Universe Amarillo and Southern States, explained that as circumstances changed, the organization decided to switch to the Teen Universe affiliation.
