The Childress Bobcats 7on7 team make their mark at the 2021 Texas 7-on-7 State Tournament, finishing as Division III State Runner-ups.

COLLEGE STATION – The Childress Bobcats made their seventh appearance at the Texas 7-on-7 State Tournament at Veterans Park in College Station on Thursday and Friday, June 24 and 25, finishing as the Division III State Runner-ups.

Falling to Daingerfield 25-14 on Thursday, the Bobcats beat Flatonia 21-7 and Palmer 20-18 to complete day 1 pool play.

Winning four games on Friday, the Bobcats beat Falls City 21-19, Waskom 21-19, Crane in the quarterfinals 28-16 and Dangerfield in the semifinals 27-20, before falling to East Bernard 19-14 in the title game.

“We didn’t play particularly well Thursday in pool play, but we battled,” head football coach Jason Sims said. “We kept saying the most mentally tough team would advance and we did that. But we were here to win it, so our players were disappointed, but I can’t ask for more. I’m super proud of these guys.”
