CHILDRESS – After making it to the State Quarterfinal last year, the Childress Bobcats are ranked No. 6 in the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 2021 Class 3A Division 2 preseason poll.

“I’m really thankful they ranked us this high,” said senior Bobcat Zion Fuller. “We went far in the playoffs last year, so we were expecting to be ranked in the top 10.”

The Bobcats went 10-3 in 2020, losing to district rival and eventual 3A state champion Canadian on Dec. 4, 2020. Canadian is ranked No. 3 in the preseason poll, behind No. 2 Gunter and No. 1 Franklin.

While the Bobcats lost some key players, they have six All-District players returning. They consist of senior players quarterback Collin Bishop, tight end and outside linebacker Avery Jalomo, tight end Stone Smith and inside linebacker Fuller; junior wide receiver Lamont Nickleberry and sophomore running back Da’Reon Mathis.
