CHILDRESS – Childress donors boosted the blood supply for Coffee Memorial Blood Center during last Tuesday’s blood drive.
“We had a great turnout,” Childress Community Blood Drive Co-Director Terri Cobb said. “It really helped in the blood shortage.”
The Childress Community Blood Drive met – and surpassed – its goal of blood donations. Cobb explained that the goal was 37 units of blood, and they had 40 blood donors check in.
The blood collected goes to Coffee Memorial Blood Center, which supplies blood to 31 medical facilities in the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles. Cobb said she’s thankful for the Childress community.
“Thank you to Childress for stepping up,” said Cobb, who added that everything went smoothly. There was little to no waiting. All donors received two free T-shirts, a WOW pass to Wonderland Amusement Park and a squeeze cow.
Cobb encourages those who couldn’t make the June drive to donate at the July one. The next drive is scheduled from 1 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13 at the City Auditorium.
Donors can call 806-331-8833 or visit www.yourbloodinstitute.org to schedule an appointment. Volunteer Sue Henderson said it is best to have an appointment. The entire process, which includes registration and donating, takes about an hour.
