CHILDRESS – Childress Independent School District (CISD) continues to step up to the plate when it comes to feeding its students.
“We have fed between 80 to 100 kids in our community daily,” said Childress ISD Child Nutrition Director Tracee Herbstritt.
Summer meals kicked off on May 24 at the Childress Elementary School cafeteria. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday, she said. Meals are provided at no cost for kids 18 years old and younger. Parents may purchase a meal for $4.75.
Families can eat at the cafeteria or take their meal to go. Since they do not serve meals on Fridays, students can take Friday’s meal home with heating instructions on Thursday. Herbstritt said the meals continue through June 24.
“I have two amazing ladies, Patsy Zuniga and Christabel Cavazos, working this summer program to make sure the kids in our community have a fresh meal each day,” she added.
Families can contact Herbstritt for more information at 940-937-2501.
