WELLINGTON – During the Wellington Independent School District end-of-year breakfast on Wednesday, May 19 in the WHS auditorium, superintendent Kurt Ashmore presented numerous service awards and recognized two individuals who have announced their retirement.
Retirees Renee Mathis and Holly Johnson received special recognition for their dedicated service to WISD.
Mathis has worked most of her 33 years in janitorial services for the junior high and high school, 1988 – 2021. When the junior high experienced the 2009 fire, she worked for a short time in the elementary building.
Johnson has 23 years of teaching at Wellington, 1990 – 1995, 1997 – 2007 and 2013 – 2021. She served as a junior high and high school math teacher and high school accounting instructor. She has a total of 28 years of teaching with two years at Childress and three years at Hedley.
