CHILDRESS – Elks Lodge 1113 of Childress will honor military men and women who have died while performing their military duties on Memorial Day.

The community-wide Memorial Day service will be held at 11 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31 at Jones Chapel in the Childress Cemetery, said Dave Griminger, Chaplin and veterans service representative for Elks Lodge #1113.

“Memorial Day is held to honor those who have fallen and those who have served and are no longer here, so that we can have the freedom to do what we do each and every day,” Griminger said.

The service will last about 30 to 45 minutes, he added. This year’s speaker is US Navy Lieutenant Commander Luke Freeman from Amarillo.
