CHILDRESS – With blood supplies down, the Rise Up & Give Childress Community Blood Drive on May 4 is a good time for Childress residents to step up and donate blood.
“All blood types are urgently needed as blood supplies are very low,” said blood drive volunteer Sue Henderson. “Please consider giving if you are in good health.”
The blood drive is scheduled from 1 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4 at the City Auditorium in Fair Park. To schedule an appointment, call 806-331-8833 or go to yourbloodinstitute.org, Henderson said. Walk-in donors are welcome, but they may experience a longer wait.
Henderson said previous donors can complete a Donor Express form online on the day of the drive at www.thegiftoflife.org. They will need to print it or bring their phone to the blood drive. All donors will receive their choice of one of the Rise Up & Give T-shirts, a free Jump Pass from AMP’D! Adventure Park and a coupon for a free Water Still tea. Donors will also be entered into a drawing for a door prize, Henderson said.
Before donating, be sure to eat a good meal and drink plenty of water before and after. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, and a photo ID is required. Anyone under the age of 17 must have a parental consent form signed, Henderson added.
For those who can’t donate on May 4, they will still have two more opportunities. In efforts to combat the loss of blood donated during the COVID-19 pandemic, Coffee Memorial Blood Center will host blood drives from 1 to 6 p.m. on June 15 and July 13 at the City Auditorium in Fair Park, Henderson explained. The blood donated in Childress goes to 31 counties and 29 medical facilities in the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, as Coffee Memorial Blood Center is the exclusive provider of blood and blood products.
