PANHANDLE – Sixteen Wellington individual and team competitors propelled themselves to the UIL Regional 1-2A Track Meet after placing in the top four at the UIL 2A Area 01-02 Track Meet on Wednesday, April 14.
Finishing in the top five, the Wellington Lady Skyrockets snagged a fifth-place 69 points, thanks to two first-place medals by Kyla Kane in the 800 meters and the 1,600 meters.
Hadlee Gomez also topped the charts, bringing in 16 points for the Lady Rockets with second-place spots in the 100 meters and long jump. Other scoring competitors included Dani Ponder, who placed third in shot put and fourth in discus; Addy Mock, who placed fourth in the 3,200 meters and the 4×200 meter relay team, consisting of Gomez, Asia Shrubs, Presley Kane, K. Kane, Abby Garcia, alternate and Audrey Jones, alternate, who placed third.
Chipping in on the Rockets’ sixth-place finish of 51 points was Marc Ramirez, who placed second in the 300-meter hurdles, Willy Olvera, who placed second in shot put, the 4×200 meter relay team, consisting of John Ramirez, M. Ramirez, Kayden Valles and Jordan Nation, that placed second, and the 4×400 meter relay team, consisting of J. Ramirez, Nation, Valles and M. Ramirez, that placed third. Alternates include Nixon Folk, Jaden McDaniel and Gumaro Rincon.
Individual and team competitors advancing to the UIL Region 1-2A Track Meet on April 23-24 in Canyon at West Texas A&M University include Lady Rockets Garcia, Gomez, K. Kane, P. Kane, Jones, Mock, Ponder and Shrubs and Rockets Folk, McDaniel, Nation, Olvera, J. Ramirez, M. Ramirez, Rincon and Valles.
