CHILDRESS – Friend, mentor and advocate are some of the ways Childress Elementary School (CES) teachers describe Sharalyn Mayden, who they recently voted CES Teacher of the Year.

“I’ve always wanted to be a teacher,” Mayden said. “I would play teacher with all my dolls and made my mother buy me teaching supplies. I feel strongly that God calls teachers to teach. It’s a gift given. When you’re a teacher, you’re not doing it for fame or fortune. You’re doing it to help others.”

Mayden said there is a whole elementary school full of teachers who deserve this award. In addition to being thankful and blessed, she still can’t believe it was her. But her colleagues can.
