WELLINGTON — Katisha Lewis beamed from behind her mask in the checkout line as Wellington Care Center’s (WCC) winner of its “Grocery Giveaway.”
Lewis won the three-minute shopping spree at Market Square Supermarkets in an employee appreciation drawing.
Lewis had three minutes to dash through the store filling her carts with as many groceries as possible. At the end of the time limit, Amy Dickerson, administrator at WCC, wrote the check for $1,789.76 to pay the total in full.
“Employees qualified to be entered in two ways,” Dickerson said. “Newly hired employees automatically received 10 entries. Current staff were entered each week that they work at least 30 hours and met all other contest requirements.
“We were excited that Market Square agreed to host the spree,” Dickerson explained. “It’s important for us to support our community.”
She reiterated that every single WCC staff member is a hero.
“Of course, we’re grateful for our nurses and nurse aides. Their efforts keep our residents healthy and safe, every single day. But we know that it’s not just the direct care staff who serve in heroic ways. Housekeeping protects our residents by cleaning and sanitizing. Kitchen staff provide healthy nutritious meals. This contest is a way to show all of our employees, in every department, how thankful we are for everything that they do.”
