CHILDRESS – The Childress High School (CHS) band received a two rating, which is an excellent rating, in concert and a one rating, which is a superior rating, in sight reading on Wednesday, March 10 in Panhandle.
“I am extremely proud,” said CHS Band Director Andrew Fowler. “We’re ecstatic.”
For the concert division, the CHS band prepared three pieces for months, Fowler explained. They performed them in front of three judges and were judged based on criteria.
For sight reading, band members were given seven minutes to look over the music. Fowler said they then performed it with judges scoring how they did.
In a year of COVID-19 and snowmageddon, Fowler said they also changed band directors and the attitude of the band program. With Assistant Band Director Cole Woods, they are also building new character.
“This is the fastest turnaround of a band program I’ve had in my career,” Fowler added.
2020-2021 has been an outstanding year for the CHS Band, Childress High School Principal Paige Steed said.
“The introduction of new Head Director Andrew Fowler and Assistant Director Cole Woods has made an extremely positive impact on the program,” Steed explained. “Not only did the band receive stellar ratings in marching, concert and sight reading this year, the band students have had a great time growing as team.”
The CHS band consists of Jodie Ayala, Katie Bachausen, Clayton Bellar, Shiv Bhakta, Micaiah Birney, Kala Brown, Hilary Cano, Chrissy Delgado, Cooper Delgado, Jazmin Hernandez-Luna, Lauren Hightower, Jessica Holder, Samantha Ingram, Conner Keys, Jace Keys, Nicole Klause, Dakota Lamb, Daphni Leal, Arianna Limon, Pedro Lizama, Bobby Luna, Emma Luna, Eryka Martinez, Matthew Martinez, Haven Mata, Kaylaneth Mendoza, Hailey Mumford, Tanner Mumford, Marisol Munoz, Annie Murphy, Natalee Olascoaga, Joanna Paloalto, K’Lynn Petty, Jazlynn Piedra, Dylan Pratt, Mackenzie Pritt, Ferenanda Rios, Jeisel Rios, Faiph Seitz, Samuel Stingel, Kailee Timmons and Alyiah Wesley.
“I look forward to watching the CHS band grow over time under the direction of these two amazing directors,” Steed added.
