TULIA – Skyrocket baseball kicked off its 2021 season going 2-0 in the Tulia Wooden Bat Tournament Feb. 25-27.
In game one, Wellington defeated Valley 10-2 with a combined no-hitter between Kayden Valles and Gavin Wood and some good timely hitting and at-bats by several Skyrockets commented Coach Jeff Anderson.
Winning pitcher Valles threw four innings with zero hits, 10 strikeouts and one unearned run. Wood, relief pitcher, tossed one inning with no hits, one strikeout and one earned run.
Leading hitters included Valles going one of three with a double and walk, Marc Ramirez one of four with a single, Mason Folk two of three with a single and triple and John Ramirez two of three with two singles.
Wellington topped host team Tulia 11-8 in game two with complete game pitching by Creighton Killian and great hitting by all the Skyrockets noted Coach Anderson.
“We made a couple of errors in the field that resulted in a few unearned runs but battled hard and kept fighting to pull out the win.” Winning pitcher Killian went six innings with seven hits, 10 strikeouts, four earned runs and four unearned runs.
Leading hitters were Valles going three of three with one single, two triples and one RBI. M. Ramirez collected two of four hits with a single, a double and two RBIs.
