Carl Gene Blair was born on August 26, 1939, in Paducah, Texas to Carl “Mack” Blair and Lorene Blair. He was raised in the CeeVee Community in Texas. He passed away on January 22, 2021 at the Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas at the age of 81.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in June 1960 as a military policeman and security dog trainer. He served for 10 years. Carl served as a staff sergeant and received numerous awards, including a Bronze Star with a “V” device during a TET offensive in Vietnam 1966-1967. He was a Vietnam veteran.
Carl worked as a police officer and detective at the University of California at Santa Barbara and a deputy sheriff for Santa Barbara County. He received his degree in Criminal Justice in 1973. After retiring from the police force, he worked 13 years for the U.S. Department of Justice as a correctional officer and U.S. Marshall.
Carl met Bonnie in 1966, and they married 1967. They raised one daughter, Lou Ann. An avid animal lover, Carl opened his home to numerous stray animals. He loved fishing and hunting with his grandson Gregory.
Carl is preceded in death by his father, mother and brother Jimmy.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie, daughter Lou Ann, grandson Gregory, brother David, sister Gale Mills, cousin Ronald Blair of Tehachapi, Calif. and numerous nephews and nieces and great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services with military honors took place Friday, February 26, 2021 at 2 p.m. at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.
