BORGER — The No. 15-ranked Lady Rockets traveled to Borger in the frigid temperatures and snowy conditions Feb. 15 to claim a 53-33 victory against Vega for the area championship.
In Monday’s match, Wellington went on a 19-point 4th quarter blitz to seal the 2A area title against the Lady Longhorns. Kyla Kane finished the night with 19 points while Sicily Sumrall added 12.
Presley Kane contributed eight points for the Lady Rockets, Hadlee Gomez five, Asia Shrubs four, Keylonai Shrubs three and Kali Brewer two.
The Lady Rockets (21-5) will play the winner of Tuesday’s Clarendon-New Deal contest on Friday, Feb. 19.

On Feb. 22, Wellington competed in a bi-district match against West Texas in Pampa where the Lady Rockets brought home a 74-28 victory to advance to the Feb. 15 area round of the playoffs.
Kane again led in scoring, this time with 20 points, as teammate Sumrall tossed in 12. P. Kane and Gomez added 11 points each, K. Shrubs six, Asia Shrubs five, Abby Garcia three and Kali Brewer and Kaitlin Bawcom two points each.
- Kane led in rebounds with 11 as P. Kane led in steals with five. Gomez added eight assists in the victory as teammates Sumrall, K. Kane and K. Shrubs had two blocks each.
Wellington out-rebounded West Texas 36-28, and had 21 assists on 26 field goals for the bi-district win.
