WELLINGTON — Students represented Wellington Elementary School in a virtual UIL Academic Meet Nov. 18 and 19. Organizers videoed speaking event competitors and sent files along with the paperwork for other contests. On Dec. 9, teachers traveled to Panhandle to calculate UIL contest scores.
WES conducted an awards ceremony Dec. 17 to recognize the accomplishments of the students. Panhandle took 1st place in the overall meet and Wellington placed 2nd. Other schools included Clarendon, Memphis, Shamrock and Wheeler.
“Wellington Elementary students worked really hard through this last semester preparing for the events,” said Deidre Kane, principal. “They gave up lunch time in the cafeteria, ate in classrooms, worked before and after school and studied for events at home too. We are very proud of their efforts.”
