WELLINGTON — The Collingsworth County Junior Livestock Show will proceed as normal as possible but with precautions according to organizers.
“Mask wearing and social distancing are highly recommended,” said Marcie Orr, president of the livestock show committee. “We want everyone to come out and support these kids who have put in countless hours and days with their projects. We spread out the show times to maybe have less people in the arena at one time.”
Youth will exhibit 47 swine, 11 lambs, 27 goats, eight steers and one heifer at Wellington Fairgrounds. The show is set for Saturday, Jan. 16. The show schedule is as follows:
• Swine 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.
• Lambs and goats 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.
• Steer and heifer 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
“Business owners and individuals are invited to attend the livestock show and participate in the BBQ and premium sale activities that evening as well,” Orr said.
The meal catered by Dyer’s Bar-B-Que of Pampa will be held from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the fairgrounds prior to the 7 p.m. premium sale.
Tickets for the BBQ are $13 and can be pre-purchased from any exhibitor or at the extension office. A limited number of meal tickets will be sold at the door on Jan. 16.
Donations to exhibitors may be given at the extension office in the courthouse or mailed to Collingsworth County Junior Livestock Show Committee, 800 West Ave., Box 12, Wellington, TX 79095 or presented at the premium sale.
Individuals and businesses may sponsor a belt buckle as an advertisement for the show as well. Advisors to the committee and exhibitors include Drew Taylor, Wellington FFA Chapter Advisor and Kenny Patterson, Collingsworth County AgriLife Extension Agent.
“We will have hand sanitizer and masks available for the public at the show,” added Orr. “Thank you in advance for helping to keep all safe and healthy.”
