Betty Winslett Squyres, 92 of Wellington, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 in Fort Worth.
Graveside services took place at 2 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2021 at North Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Anthony Knowles, pastor of the Quail Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.
Betty was born April 5, 1928 in Wellington to Dick and Gladys Rainer Richards. She married Jack Winslett on June 1, 1962 in Shamrock. He died in 2000. She later married Fred Squyres on May 15, 2004 in Wellington. He proceeded her in death in 2017.
A Wellington High School graduate, Betty attended Texas Tech University. Before retirement she served as a typesetter and circulation manager for the Wellington Leader.
She left Wellington in 1954 for Denver, then moved to Shamrock in 1962 and returned to Wellington in 1991.
Betty was a former member of the VFW Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Wellington Opportunity Center Board of Directors and the Wellington Ex-Student Association. She was a founding member of the Shamrock Helping Hands Organization. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and her son Danny Ray Harrison in 1997.
Her survivors include a son Skipper Harrison of Colorado Springs; two daughters, Karen Harrison Walker and her husband Jerry of Cleburne and Sandy Winslett Fowler and her husband Russell of Amarillo; a daughter-in-law Gloria Harrison of Youngblood, Pa.; her sister Mary Ann Lowe of Wellington; a niece Susan Langley and her husband Randy of Wellington; nephew Andy Lowe of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family suggest that memorials be made to the Collingsworth County Museum or the Wellington Cemetery Association.
