Sharon Johnson was the highlight of the Childress City Council meeting held on Monday, Dec. 14.
The meeting began with an easy minutes approval for the previous meeting held on Oct. 2. Following this, city mayor Cary Preston continued on to cover the results of the Dec. 7 runoff election for the City Council Alderman place 4 position. Per the vote tallies, it was confirmed that Johnson won the position with a total of 56 votes, compared to C.T. Taylor’s 54 votes. The canvass results were unanimously approved, and Preston moved on to welcome Johnson.
Standing face to face, but six feet apart, Johnson recited the oath of office as presented by city attorney Steve Bird. Upon completion of the oath, Johnson was welcomed with a unanimous vote of approval and congratulations.
“Sharon, we are glad to have you on the council with us, and once again, congratulations. We look forward to working with you,” Said Preston.
Preston concluded the meeting by reminding the public that testing of the outdoor warning system would proceed on Friday, Dec. 18.
