Nell Wilbur, 94 of Wellington, passed away on Sunday, November 29,2020 peacefully at her home.
Graveside services took place at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 3 at North Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Joe Lee, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.
Lukas Wilbur, Nelson Wilbur, Gus Wilbur, Kye O’Hair, Seven Wilbur and Richard O’Rear served as pallbearers.
She was born on April 1, 1926 in the House Log Community of Collingsworth County to Robert Leonard and Mary Jane Smith Karnes. She married C. A.
Wilbur on November 13, 1948 in Dallas. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Nell graduated from Wellington High School in 1942 and attended Draughon’s Business College. While living in Dallas from 1942 to 1960, she served as a secretary at Magnolia Oil Company. During World War II, she returned here to work at the Childress Airfield. In 1963, Nell began what would be a 43-year career as business manager for the Wellington Leader newspaper, retiring in 2006.
She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Wellington and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Nell was also preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara DeMasi in 1999 and by her two brothers, Bobby and Ben Karnes.
She is survived by three sons, Chuck Wilbur and his wife Doris of Wellington, Paul Wilbur and his wife Darla of Amarillo and Bryan Wilbur of Corinth, Texas; seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Wellington.
