WELLINGTON — A key component in the Skyrocket’s 11-0 season record is junior running back and linebacker Marc Ramirez who earned the Class 2A Week 9 Built Ford Tough state distinction.
“Ramirez flew all over the field during his team’s 42-22 win over Clarendon on Week 9,” said announcer Dianna Bohannon during the pep rally presentation. “On offense, Ramirez ran for 303 yards on 26 carries and five touchdowns behind a strong offensive line for the Skyrockets. He made an even bigger impact on defense with 16 tackles, a forced fumble and a pass break up.”
Head Coach Greg Proffitt noted that Ramirez has been going above and beyond in contributing to the success of the 10-0 Wellington Rockets.
In addition to the Built Ford Tough distinction for Week 9, Ramirez earned Press Pass Sports Top 10 Performer recognition for small schools in the Panhandle for both Week 9 against Clarendon and Week 2 versus New Deal.
For Week 2, Ramirez’ tough running and great defense is how he helped Wellington beat New Deal 22-13 in the 2A showdown. Ramirez chewed up 136 yards on 24 carries with a TD, and was a menace on defense with 15 tackles wrote Kale Steed of Press Pass Sports.
