While this year’s Agape Thanksgiving Meal that the First United Methodist Church in Childress hosts will not look like this one from years past, it will still happen through carry-outs and delivery.

CHILDRESS – The First United Methodist Church in Childress will still have its Agape Thanksgiving Meal on Thursday, Nov. 26. It will just look a little differently because of COVID-19.
“With the way this year has gone, we felt that this may be the year our Agape Thanksgiving Meal is needed more than ever,” First United Methodist Church Rev. Louis W. Ellerbrook.
They will only have carry-out and delivery meals between 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. this Thanksgiving. For carry-out, Ellerbrook said people will need to go to the Gazebo Park, which is located at 400 N. Main St. in downtown Childress.
“People will need to stay in their car to order their meals,” Ellerbrook explained. “We will have volunteers taking carry-out orders at Gazebo Park and will have your carry-out order ready in front of the church courtyard.”
Ellerbrook said people will need to go through the drive-through in front of the church, located at 201 Ave. D NE. Church volunteers will also deliver meals. Ellerbrook requests people call the church at 940-937-2512 in advance.
He wants people to know many of their regular volunteers have been recertified or certified as Food Handlers. They are also doing as much of the food preparation and cooking as they can in the church kitchen. “We appreciate how this community has helped to support this meal by donating food and money to make this meal happen for 20+ years,” Ellerbrook said. “All donations given during the Agape Thanksgiving Meal go towards making next year’s Thanksgiving Meal possible.”
