Iris Estell Davis, 94 of Memphis, went to be with her heavenly family on November 3, 2020 in her beloved state of Texas.
Funeral services took place at 3 p.m. Sunday, November, 8, at the Memphis Church of Christ with ministers Tom Anderson and Mark Lance officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.
Iris was born August 7, 1926 in Rotan, Texas to Hannon and Jewel Rodgers. On February 20, 1946, she married W.M. Davis, Jr. in Phoenix, Ariz.
A resident of Memphis for 62 years, Iris served as a homemaker, and the first and only secretary of the Memphis Church of Christ. Iris served her church as secretary for 50 years, from January 1, 1960 to January 1, 2010. Upon her retirement she was 84 years old. She considered her work a joy, not a job. She was a lifelong member of the Memphis Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.M. Davis, Jr. on April 27, 1999, her parents, seven brothers and two sisters.
Iris is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Joan Davis-Schindler and husband Bill of Collinsville; a son, Wiley Davis and wife Victoria of Memphis; a sister, Fay Booth and a brother, Chester Rodgers, both of Memphis; five grandchildren, Dave Merrell and wife Angie of Graham, Hunter Davis and wife Rebecca of Ropesville, Sheridan Voight and husband Jake of Canyon, Hillary Carter and husband Randy of Arlington and Alex Moore of Dallas; four great grandchildren, Zachary Merrell of Graham, Sheyenne Russell and husband Trey of Mabank, Mitchell Davis of Ropesville and Nora Carter of Arlington; two great-great grandchildren, Ellie and Henry Russell, both of Mabank; plus a host of nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
