Wellington takes two Cotton Country crowns

HOLLIS, Okla. — A beautiful evening was capped off with the crowing of Averi Kelley, of White Deer, as the 2020 Miss Cotton Country. Wellington’s Summer Owens took the title of Teen Miss Cotton Country and Jenna Faulks Tiny Miss Cotton Country. Novelyn Spence, of Comanche, won Little Miss Cotton Country.
According to volunteer Beth Pennington, the 2020 event hosted young women from Texas and Oklahoma who competed for the crowns on Oct. 10. The young women competed for gifts, sashes, trophies, crowns, and the committee awarded almost $4,000 in cash and scholarships that evening.
Charity Martin of Altus, Okla. served as emcee for the evening. She led the volunteer crew of tabulators, stage directors, gate keepers, spotlighters and former titleholders as they all pulled together to put together a show.
Reining 2019 queens provided entertainment with farewells and included Little Miss Cotton Country Heather Schulz of Hollis, Teen Miss Cotton Country Foster Tischler of Altus and Miss Cotton Country Angela Nichols of Headrick, Okla.
Judges for the evening were Debbie Brown of Weatherford, Okla., Natalie Karcher of SWOSU and Larry McCaskel of Leedey, Okla.
The new 2020 Miss Cotton Country and their courts are as follows:
• Miss Cotton Country Averi Kelly of White Deer; first runner-up Jayla Kilgore of Wellington; second runner-up Dani Ponder of Wellington; Miss Photogenic Chloe Williams of Altus.
• Teen Miss Cotton Country and Teen Miss Photogenic Summer Owens of Wellington; and first runner-up Audrey Townzen of Childress.
• Tiny Miss Cotton Country and Tiny Miss Photogenic Jenna Faulks of Wellington, who also was named favorite contestant. First runner-up is Addison Zepeda of Hollis.
• Little Miss Cotton Country and Little Miss Photogenic Novelyn Spence of Comanche, Okla., with first runner-up Caelyn Baker of Altus and second runner-up Payton Russell of Altus.
