CHILDRESS – The boards of both Main Street and the Chamber of Commerce have canceled
this year’s Downtown Trick or Treating event.
“It is with sadness that we are canceling the Downtown Trick or Treating for 2020,” said Childress
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Susan Leary. “The overall safety of our children has
always been the reason for hosting the event, and it is again the reason we are choosing to cancel.”
Leary said the number of active cases remains in the high twenties in Childress.
“The worst-case scenario would be an outbreak of new cases from the event,” she said. “The event
is primarily young children, and the possibility any child being diagnosed is too many.”
2020 has been a different and rough year for most of us, she added.
“Canceling one more event is heartbreaking,” Leary said.
