Gary Killian, age 71 of Wellington, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2020.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 20 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Harry Stallings, retired Baptist minister and Rev. Joe Lee, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.
Nate Ponder, Lachlan Bronson, Maddox Bronson and Ryker Killian served as pallbearers.
Born December 14, 1948 in Wellington to J.B. and Louise Young Killian, Gary married Mitzie Hartman May 22, 1970 at the Friendship Baptist Church in the Buck Creek community.
Gary graduated from Wellington High School in 1967 and received his BS degree from Texas Tech University in 1971. He returned home to farm and ranch.
A member of the First Baptist Church, Gary served as a Deacon and remained active in the church’s prison ministry from its inception 25 years ago.
Gary was a past president of the WISD school board where he served for 11 years. He served 33 years on the Soil and Water Conservation District Board and 30 years on the Salt Fork Conservation District Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary’s survivors include his wife Mitzie of the home; three daughters, DeLanea Bronson and her husband Dr. Eric of Portsmouth, R.I., Keli Ponder and her husband Joe of Wellington and Mical Holland and her husband Brandon of Claude; a son, Vance Killian and his wife Kelli of Wellington; two brothers, Dr. Granvel Killian and his wife Vicki of Hollis and Mark Killian and his wife Phyllis of Wheeler; his sister Vicki Kunka and her husband Gary of Follett; and eight grandchildren, Lachlan and Maddox Bronson, Dani and Nate Ponder, Lena and Gwen Holland and Kylin and Ryker Killian.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Prison Ministry, 1106 15th St., Wellington, TX 79095.
