Mackie always knew that he would manage the family owned business, Memphis Compress. He began his part time work at age 13 and remained on the job for 60 years until the business was sold in 2007. His passion was Hall County and Memphis, where he helped oversee volunteer Compress construction projects such as the Allen Field House and the building of tennis courts. Mackie was a longtime member of the Memphis Church of Christ and served as an Elder, Deacon and song leader for over 60 years. He believed that spreading God’s word was his greatest calling. He was a faithful servant of God and continued to use his faith to touch others around him even in his final days. Most of all, Mackie loved his family unconditionally, watching his grandchildren’s activities as well as his 5 great grandsons playing sports.
