Alderman place 5
By Jackie Zimmerman/Red River Sun—
CHILDRESS – City council candidate Amy Dietrich has officially withdrawn from the race for Alderman Place 5.
The official certificate of withdrawal was filed by Dietrich Sept. 30.
Dietrich’s name will remain on ballot since the ballots are printed and ready for early voting, which begins Oct. 13.
City Secretary D’Linda Dockery said since Dietrich filed a formal withdrawal notice, she is no longer eligible to be elected.
“In the event a withdrawn candidate receives the votes necessary to take office, it will result in a vacancy that will be filled at the same May 2021 election date,” Dockery said, adding the city does not fill council positions by appointment.
Early voting will be held from Tuesday, Oct. 13 through Friday, Oct. 30.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Dietrich did not return a message to her Facebook page or a voice mail left by The Red River Sun.
